Vintage picnic at Birr Castle to become annual event after great turnout

The first-ever hosting of the 'Big Beautiful Vintage Picnic" at Birr Castle Demesne proved to be a successful and stylish occasion on Friday last (July 29).

An opening event for the 54th Annual Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival, it drew a great crowd. People got into the spirit of things by dusting off their picnic blankets and enjoying their own vintage style picnic.

"This was our first Big Beautiful Picnic – a fun family day where memories were made," commented Grainne O'Malley, General Manager of Birr Castle.

"Due to its success, we are already planning for next year. It was a wonderful start to what is a wonderful week in Birr.

"Many thanks to all who entered the different competitions and participated in the fun and games. We're looking forward to next year already!"

Attendees had an opportunity to try their hand at games of Garden Croquet or Skittles. There were prizes for the best dressed vintage family, best looking vintage themed picnic, not to mention best cucumber sandwich and best Victoria sponge!

Many packed their own picnics, but some went all out, collecting picnics from the café at Birr Castle or from some of the other excellent cafés in Birr.
