2023 opening for new construction demo park

A new national Modern Methods of Construction National Demonstration Park could be open in Mount Lucas during the second half of next year, it has emerged. Tenders were sought for a programme design consultant for the ambitious project recently.

Last month, Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris visited the National Construction Training Campus in Mount Lucas and announced plans for the new Demonstration Park for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).

The project is being developed by a group including Laois and Offaly Education Training Board, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment and SOLAS.

The park will be an accessible and interactive resource for MMC demonstration, applied research and training located at the Mount Lucas National Construction Training Centre. The objectives of the park include to provide an accessible "flagship’ location for MMC demonstration, and in so doing to facilitate the showcasing of innovative MMC products and systems" particularly for the housing sector. It is hoped that construction will commence in the first half of next year.
