Extension works for Kilcoursey Cemetery due to start this month

Extension works on Kilcoursey Cemetery are due to commence later this month to provide new graves and extra car parking spaces at the resting place in Clara.

The works will be carried out in phases and 138 graves will be provided in Phase 1 along with a new entrance from the Horseleap Rd. Resurfacing of the current carparking space on the Kilbeggan Rd and landscaping will also be undertaken.

The works should be substantially completed in 6 to 8 weeks. Subsequent phases will include the construction of footpaths and headstone foundations as the need arises.

The total extension of the lawn cemetery will cover 2.246ac. (0.909 ha.), and in total, the development will provide 1028 new graves spaces. It is estimated that the extension will provide capacity for at least 50 years.
