Thatching work underway at historic pub

The traditional skill of thatching has been on show in Tullamore as a historic local hostelry gets a facelift.

Thatching got underway at The Mallet Tavern in Kilbride Street in recent days, where Kyron O’Grady from Wicklow, who is one of Ireland’s 35 thatchers has been hard at work.

A report on the Offaly History blog suggests that The Mallet Tavern may be the oldest pub in Tullamore.
