Free webinar to discuss transition from school to college for students with special needs

A free webinar entitled 'Planning the Transition from School to College for Students with Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities (Parents, School Leavers & Teachers)' takes place on Wednesday, November 16 next at 7pm via Zoom.

The event will explore the transition from school to college for students with additional needs or disabilities and address the 'Disability Access Route to Education' (DARE), supports for students with disabilities in college, and what to expect from online or blended learning.

While this talk is for parents and school leavers, it may be useful for teachers/ guidance counsellors and will examine the following subjects:

- Applying to the DARE scheme

- Choosing the right course

- Registering with college Disability Services

- Understanding how college works

- Learning to learn online

The facilitator is Dr Alison Doyle, who is an independent educational psychologist with more than 35 years of experience.

She designs and delivers transition programmes, and regularly provides seminars and workshops to parents and institutions.

Alison is a visiting Lecturer with Trinity College and Dublin City University, and her research work includes transition from school to higher education for students with disabilities, supported employment for young people with intellectual disability, pre-entry transition programmes for students with ASD, and Autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance in Ireland.
