Irish Chamber Orchestra presents festive concert in Birr

The Irish Chamber Orchestra is back on the road with 'Christmas with Muireann', a wonderfully festive offering, featuring one of Ireland’s finest singers performing at St Brendan’s Catholic Church, Birr on December 15 next.

Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh is no stranger to ICO having collaborated on the very successful Roisin Re-Imagined recording, recently winning best Folk Track from the said album and best Folk Singer at the RTÉ Radio Folk Awards. Hailing from West Kerry, Muireann has produced some stunning albums alongside a successful broadcasting career on both television and radio. Her repertoire is vast.

Muireann celebrates the tradition of candle-lighting with her delivery of 'Tá Coinnle an Linbh Íosa' alongside the ever-popular 'Don oíche úd i mBeithil'. Enjoy her jazzy execution of The Wexford Carol alongside the ethereal Coventry Carol. The iconic 'Have Yourself a Very Merry Christmas' will certainly delight audiences.

A virtuosic and exciting ensemble, the Irish Chamber Orchestra are celebrated for their colourful collaborations and exhilarating performances. Katherine Hunka and ICO swing into season with Sibelius’ luscious Andante Festivo. Handel’s Concerti Grossi Op. 6 brim with variety, colour, and dance rhythms and No. 2 is no exception. Finally, Vivaldi’s Winter from The Four Seasons paints a festive scene of falling snow, chilling wind gusts, slipping on ice and teeth chattering! This enchanting music can only warm hearts!
