One of Clara’s best-known citizens is back on two wheels again after he was gifted a brand-new bicycle last week after having his beloved bike stolen from River Street in the town on November 16 last.

A very familiar figure as he cycles through Clara, accompanied by his constant companion, his beloved dog, Rocky, the bike which Bertie used as his only mode of transport for many years was of great sentimental value as it was given to him by his great friend, the late Paddy Dolan.

Bertie McMahon’s name is synonymous with the organisation of the hugely-successful annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Clara, and such has been his involvement with so many organisations in the town, and surrounding areas, over the years, that it was decided to purchase a brand-new bike for him.

The presentation of the bike, which was sponsored by Brendan Buggy and family, from Buggy Coaches, and Kevin Casey, KC Motorcycles & Garden Equipment, Cloncollig, Tullamore took place last week, and a delighted Bertie is back on two wheels again and busier than ever!
