Tullamore psychologist to launch new book

Offaly woman and chartered psychologist Dr Denise O'Dwyer will launch her new book in Tullamore next week.

'Psychology with a Sparkle' offers a contemporary summary of thoughts, ideas, insights, research and reflections – many of which regularly present for people, both in and outside of formal therapy.

The book provides a journey of professional insights, personal stories, scientific research, and tips and strategies for dealing with the seemingly fixed and immovable, to sparkling fluidity.

According to Denise, she wanted to write something with a difference. ”Something which would be of value to the everyday person, who maybe has an interest in learning, personal development and occupying their personal best, but perhaps doesn’t wish to formally attend a psychologist.”

The author highlights how each individual's definition of success is different, and how it is up to each of us to define and establish what success means, in shaping our lives and lifestyles.

“The ability to assist and connect with people from all walks of life in an informed, meaningful way, is only as good as our willingness to acknowledge our shared humanity, and ongoing areas of personal development. Our ability to communicate this in a relatable, non-elitist manner, I believe, more readily captures the imagination of a diverse, global audience, and to this end, I have used key examples from my professional and personal life to make the book more relatable and reader-friendly,” she added.

In the book the author explains how people can overcome maladaptive thinking and behaviour patterns, silence their inner critic, improve relationships, overcome imposter syndrome, and strive toward becoming their personal best, physically, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually and sartorially.

Denise will launch 'Psychology with a Sparkle' in Tullamore in ‘The Cherry Room’, at Browne's Bar, William Street next on Tuesday, December 27 at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.
