O’Brien and Herlihy lead the way for Harriers in Banagher

Athletics: Tullamore Harriers News

What a great turnout from the club at the Banagher 5k race last Sunday morning! Tullamore Harriers had 45 athletes in blue and white who put on a wonderful display on the streets of Banagher for Round 2 of the Buildmore Offaly 5k Road Race Series.

First home for the club and in 5th place overall was Mick O'Brien in a super time of 15.48. Mick earned the first O45 prize. Next in 6th place was Kevin Minnock in 15.52. Jack Donegan was the third Tullamore Harriers man, taking second place in the junior male category.

Evelyn Herlihy was the club's fastest lady, earning 1st place in the O-40 age category with an excellent run of 18.58. Martina Conlon and Finian McDermott both took the O60 wins, so it was a good day all around for the club, with many posting personal best times.

Well done Banagher AC, on a superbly organised race, they even managed to hold off the rain! Well done to all of the club's athletes and supporters.

Condolences: Tullamore Harriers AC was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of James O'Connor and offers deepest sympathy to Lisa and his family and many friends. He was an inspiration in so many ways. James was a true advocate for mental health services and the driving force behind the Tullamore Goes Green Campaign which the club supports annually.

He was instrumental in the founding and setting up of ACT (Accessible Counselling Tullamore) which has saved and changed many lives. He will be truly missed by so many who had the pleasure of knowing him. Sleep easy James, you had a short life but you had a massive impact on those around you.
