The Transition year class of 2023.

Transition years at Colaiste Naomh Cormac enjoy jam-packed schedule of activities

Transition Year is a very busy year with loads of fun activities, day trips, class activities. Below, you will find a snapshot of just some of the activities that the students have taken part in this year so far.

Lilliput

At Lilliput Adventure Centre on Lough Ennell, the students went through a bog, climbing through tunnels and going through bog water. They also went rock climbing, trying to see who could go the highest on three different stages. Paddle boarding where the boys and girls competed to have all their team standing for the longest and capture the flag; a competitive team game through the woods to see who could find the flag first.

Birr Adventure and Canoeing

The Transition Years did fun team activities in Birr, one of the activities was to be blind folded and walk through an obstacle course. The trick was they could not let go of each other and had to guide each other without taking off the blind fold and then they travelled to Banagher where they canoed along the river and then went pier jumping.

UL college visit

The students enjoyed a visit to the University of Limerick where they went around the college, sat in on different lectures and got to see what a day of college would look like. They also went on a tour around the grounds and ate food on campus.

Mountain biking and tag archery

Then, the TY's went mountain biking down different tracks, some harder than others with amazing views and learned how to shoot and play tag archery which was extremely competitive.

There were also loads of activities in school including decorating Christmas doors, each group creating their own looks for the doors and hanging them up. The annual Christmas Fair is where every group from the TY cohort sold their own products which they made themselves, science week with loads of different experiments that were shown to the first years.

The Musical Disco Inferno

The TY's really enjoyed the Musical Disco Inferno which took weeks of planning and practicing the TY group really enjoyed it even though they did not think they would. There was practice for weeks and loads of preparation including getting costumes and props, setting up the stage and lights along with learning lines and dances and lyrics for the songs.

The Transition Years also completed two weeks of swimming in Birr. There are more activities planned such as learning sign language and learning riptide in Irish and the Gaisce trip along with a trip to Croke Park, organising sports day and the 5k run for the school.
