Camogie club dedicates training top to memory of Ashling Murphy

Kilcormac/Killoughey Camogie Club have dedicated their new training tops in memory of the late Ashling Murphy.

The tops carry the Number 23 across the top, the age Ashling will forever be, while the phrase ’Ní Bheidh a Leithéid Ann Arís’ is also inscribed on the training tops in her memory.

Describing the act as "a beautiful gesture", the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund said camogie was an important part of Ashling’s life as symbolised through the camán entwined in the charity logo established in her memory.

The fund said along with music, Ashling grew up with GAA participation as a pivotal part in her life.

The fund was set up by the Murphy family and the Ashling Murphy Memorial fund committee in November 2022, to honour her strong legacy as an outstanding musician, sportsperson and educator and her contribution to Irish culture and heritage.

"She played camogie with her local primary and secondary school as well as her beloved Kilcormac/Killoughey camogie club. Ashling took pride in wearing each jersey - she loved the sport but moreover she lived for the friendships, the memories and the laughs had along the way," the fund's Facebook page sdaid.

The fund thanked the club for the tribute, for their continued support to the Murphy family, and for a generous donation of €1180 from jersey proceeds to The Active Runner Magazine fundraiser last January in support of the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fundl.

Jerseys are available to purchase on the O’Neills website. You can donate to the memorial fund on their official idonate page at https://www.idonate.ie/cause/ashlingmurphymemorialfund
