Deep sadness at death of well-known Birr businessman

The death has taken place of well-known Birr businessman, John McKeown.

The hugely-popular owner of Romaquip, which is one of the biggest employers in the Birr area, passed away, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, yesterday evening, Tuesday May 2.

A native of Aughafatten, County Antrim, the late John McKeown was a well-known figure in the local business community having made his home in Birr for many years before moving to nearby Mucklagh in recent years.

The popular businessman is described in his death notice on RIP.ie as being "a passionate businessman who thrived working with others to achieve great success with his business Romaquip."

Predeceased by his twin sisters, Margaret and Ann, he will be sadly missed by his much-loved wife, Pauline, daughters; Annette and Deborah, son Stephen, daughter-in-law Gráinne and adored grandchildren; Seán and Cillian. John will also be missed by his sister and brother, Marese and David, and his wide network of friends and colleagues.

The successful businessman will be laid to rest in Clonoghill Cemetery in Birr following Funeral Mass in St. Brendan's Church at 10am on Friday morning, May 5.

His remains will repose at the home of his son, Stephen, at Hillside, Birr (R42 F820) tomorrow, Thursday, May 4, from 4.30pm - 7.30pm, with house private outside of these hours.

Funeral cortage will arrive at St. Brendan's Church in Birr on Friday morning at 9.45am for Requiem Mass at 10am.
