Funding to repair Tullamore Town Park water feature welcomed

Independent Councillor Sean O'Brien has welcomed the announcement that funding of €20,000 has been secured from the Department of Rural and Community Development for repairs to the water feature in the Town Park in Tullamore.

"I have been raising this matter with the council and insisted that the water feature has to be repaired this year. We are building new toilets in the Town Park and also a Bandstand. It is essential that we repair the water feature and then the Town Park will be fully fit for purpose. The council will allocate matched funding to go with the grant of €20,000 which we are getting and then the water feature can be fully restored," outlined Cllr O'Brien.

"Meanwhile I am calling on the council to clean the water feature. Parts of it have been vandalised and concrete slabs have been thrown into the water. There is also silt and mud in the water and litter. Weeds and moss are growing all around the exterior of the feature. This work needs to be done urgently as soon the inspectors from the National Tidy Towns competition will be visiting. Our Town Park is looking really well apart from the water feature and this could cost us valuable points," concluded Cllr O' Brien.
