Gortnamona NS gender equality play wins national award

Students in Offaly's Gortnamona national school are celebrating the winning of a major national award for their play about the importance of gender equality.

The sock puppet play, which was compiled by 5th and 6th class pupils from the school, was the winner of the prestigious 'Equality for All' award at this year's Our World Irish Aid awards.

The announcement was made at an event at O’Reilly Hall, UCD where pupils and teachers from 13 schools across the country gathered to celebrate their collective success at a ceremony hosted by Clara Murray.

The project from Gortnamona National School, along with those created by the 12 other finalists, feature on a host of bus shelters across the country, as well as in a special online exhibition on the Our World Irish Aid Awards website www.ourworldirishaidawards.ie and in the 2023 Global Goal Getters annual digital magazine also available online.
