Iconic Tullamore butcher shop set to close

The news that one of the most iconic butcher shops in Tullamore is to close on July 1 has been greeted with a mixture of shock and sadness in the town.

CR Tormey & Sons Butchers, which has given over half a century of service to customers from Tullamore and from a very wide catchment area from its premises on Bridge Street, is set to close due to the retirement of proprietor, Christy Tormey and his wife, Larissa.

The shock news was announced on the the Facebook page of the iconic business, during which the Tormey family thanked all their loyal customers and wonderful staff for their support throughout the years.

Customers of the business can still continue to buy Tormey's quality meats in the other two family shops which will remain open in Mullingar and Galway.

The full text of the statement issued by Christy and Larissa Tormey is as follows:

After 53 successful years in business, we decided to retire.

We would like to thank all of our loyal customers and our wonderful staff for your support throughout the years.

The shop will close on Saturday, 1th of July

You can continue to buy quality meat in our family shops, which will remain opened, in Mullingar and Galway.
