Fine Gael select two candidates for Edenderry area elections

The two outgoing councillors, Noel Cribbin and Liam Quinn, have been selected to run for Fine Gael in the Edenderry Municipal District in next year's local elections.

The duo were proposed and selected at the FG Selection Convention in Daingean on Monday night before a large attendance which was chaired by Meath TD Damien English.

Speaking at the convention, Cllr Cribbin outlined details of his work and the great progress on a number of projects in the area, including the completion of Phase 1 of the new Inner Relief Road and the imminent commencement of Phase 2, the clearing of the old Tesco site, the publication in the coming weeks of plans for a new library and performance area, and plans for a new Oaklands College on a former hotel site.

Cllr Cribbin also outlined the huge potential of the Derrygreenagh Business Park, a 3,000 acres site on the edge of the motorway, 50 minutes from Dublin with six wind and solar farms and a €600 million gas fired power station to be built on this site.

“I have been calling for North Offaly to be designated a Green Energy Hub and thankfully this seems to be happening as Bord na Mona are been more proactive with the site and also a very positive report by Siemens on the Rhode Energy Park and its huge potential as a site for big energy plants and data centres.”

Cllr Cribbin also outlined his proposal to partner with Bord Na Mona's proposed new Ballydermot Wind Farm and for an additional wind turbine to be owned by the community. He also outlined that he has recently taking up the position of Chairman of Edenderry Swimming Pool and is working very closely with the hard working pool committee and Director of Services for the Edenderry area, Sharon Kennedy, to deliver the much awaited new swimming pool for Edenderry and North Offaly.

Cllr Quinn outlined all the improvements works ongoing in Rhode, Daingean and Croghan that he is involved in and helped get funding for and said he look forward to great improvements works to the hall in Daingean.
