Controlled explosion carried out at Mucklagh farm

An Army Bomb Disposal Team carried out a controlled explosion at a farm in Mucklagh yesterday evening (Monday) following the discovery of a suspicious device.

The Defence Forces team were called to attend the scene at 7pm by members of An Garda Siochána and spent over three and a half hours at the farm before returning to barracks at 10.40pm.

A cordon was established around the farm and maintained for the duration of the operation, and according to a statement from the Defence Forces Press Office, “a historic device was found and was destroyed on site by the team.”

A statement issued by the Garda Press Office confirmed that the device “is understood to have been historic in nature” and was destroyed following the carrying out of “a controlled explosion.”

The Defence Forces reitereated its advice to members of the public that, should they encounter any suspicious items or hazardous substances, they are advised to maintain a safe distance and inform An Garda Siochána.
