Nolan: Low Cost Rental Tenant-in-Situ referrals a concern

Independent TD for Laois Offaly Carol Nolan raised the issue of the cost rental tenant-in-situ scheme this week, asking a parliamentary question to the Minister for Housing, Local Government, and Heritage Darragh O'Brien.

The cost rental tenant-in-situ scheme (CRTiS) is a temporary scheme available where a tenant faces the termination of a tenancy due to the landlord's intention to sell the property. It is administered by the Housing Agency.

Nolan asked for the number of completed CRTiS offers, the number in progress, by county, in tabular form, and if the Minister will make a statement on the matter.

Minister O'Brien revealed that as of the end of Quarter 2, 68 cases had been referred to the Agency by 21 local authorities.

Deputy Nolan responded: “Clear concerns have been expressed since the introduction of this scheme regarding the pace of the process and the low level of referrals and completed applications.”

“The reply I have received today only confirms the legitimacy of those concerns. We must have transparency around the operation of the scheme and whether or not local authorities are being sufficiently empowered to make the scheme a success. Why are the number of referrals so low? We need a proper analysis capable of providing an answer to that question.”
