Mooney shines on the double in weekend to remember

Tullamore Harriers athlete Laura Mooney certainly impressed on two fronts last weekend.

On Saturday, Mooney competed in the 123.ie National Senior 10,000m race in Morton Stadium, Santry and although she just missed out on a podium place, her run was still superb.

The race favourite, Shona Heaslip from An Riocht AC, claimed the national title with a time of 33.22. Cliona Murphy from Celtic Dublin City Harriers AC secured the second position with a time of 34.42.

Claire Fagan from Mullingar Harriers AC finished just ahead of Laura with a time of 34.39, taking the national bronze medal, while Laura posted a time of 34.52.

Tullamore Harriers AC descried Laura's performance as a "brilliant display of running".

Mooney went on to claim victory the women's event in the Edenderry AC 10-mile road race last Sunday morning.

The Cappincur native was the 11th overall finisher with a super time of 58.17. This follows her very impressive run in the National Track 10k the previous in Morton Stadium, where she was the fourth finisher.

The second lady in Edenderry was Sarah Mulligan (1.02.50) and the third was Niamh Delvin (1.02.56), both from Dundrum South Dublin AC.

Tullamore Harriers had a contingent of 30 athletes for the annual Frank Kilrane race in Edenderry, which served as the county 10-mile road championships and was Round 3 of the Offaly Endurance Series.

The first man for Tullamore Harriers was Eimhin Kenny, who had an excellent run, securing fourth place overall with a time of 56.49. Following closely behind him in sixth place was Jonathan Dunne, who claimed the O40 prize.

The winner of the Edenderry 10-mile race was Ferbane AC's Mick Fogarty - see here for separate article.
