Book on Irish Mist to be launched tonight

A new book on Irish Mist, the liqueur long associated with Tullamore, will be launched on Friday.

The book, Irish Mist: the story of Tullamore’s whiskey liqueur, 1945-1985, will be launched by Seamus Dooley.

Irish Secretary of the National Union of Journalists at a reception at 8pm in Offaly History Centre, Bury Quay, Tullamore.

The book is edited by Michael Byrne and John Flanagan, and the duo also contribute pieces, along with Guy Williams, Brian Jaffray, Ger Scully, Mike Murphy, Gerry Molyneaux, Anne Williams, Camillus Dwane, Frank Nicholson and Peter Hallgarten.

The full-colour publication spans 275 pages and includes some fine illustrations.

It is a book that will interest not only those looking back to a product developed and marketed from Tullamore, but also to budding entrepreneurs interested to see how it was done so successfully. Ireland is now selling 25 million cases of spirits and it all started modestly in the 1950s after a gap of 30 to 50 years. Irish Mist and Tullamore Dew were out there as pioneers in the 1950s.

The book has been supported by Creative Ireland and Offaly County Council.
