Week of cold temperatures ahead, Met Éireann advises

Met Éireann is advising of a week of cold temperatures ahead, including sharp frost and ice.

In an advisory note for the week ahead issued today, it said that Arctic air would bring winter hazards this coming week. Sharp to severe frosts expected with icy stretches on roads and pavements.

Some sleet or snow will occur at times too, mostly for northern areas, and especially for hills.

The notice covers the period form 11am Sunday to 12noon on Friday.

Meanwhile, a separate yellow weather warning for low temperatures and ice is in place for tonight in 22 counties, including the midlands.

Met Éireann said it would be very cold overnight and early Monday morning with the danger of icy patches. Some freezing fog patches locally also.

The warning is for all counties, with the exception of Donegal, Mayo, Leitrim and Sligo. It lasts from 7pm to 11am Monday.
