Local elections candidate meets Killeigh and Spollanstown residents

Green Party Candidate, Liam Walsh, was out with his team of canvassers during the Big Green National Canvass Day last weekend, meeting the residents of Spollanstown and Killeigh, to listen to the concerns of the local community.

Mr Walsh was chosen as a Green Party candidate late last summer and held an unofficial launch for his campaign in November 2023 in St Mary's Youth Centre Tullamore on sustainability for the future.

The Green Party Candidate said: "A number of residents in Spollanstown spoke of the need for some speed signs to be erected and better lighting for the area. The litter still seems to be an issue but real gratitude to the great work of Tullamore Tidy Towns that keep a great check on this area and keep it clean. The residents we met in Killeigh were delighted that the Old Macra Hall has got a total refurbishment and wondered if further funding could be made available for the interior completion of the hall, also a new bus shelter in the centre of the village. As a Green Candidate I am happy to follow up on these concerns and issues, feeling positive that we can deliver on most. Overall, people in both areas are seeking change, that will offer diversity, action and real consultation.”

Mr Walsh believes with the new national Green initiatives in the pipeline such as the launch on February 1 of the Deposit Return Scheme will in time bring about a cleaner environment and make our local communities healthier places to live with less plastic and tin cans being disposed of on the streets and in the rivers. “More for Tullamore in 24 is what is needed,” Mr Walsh concluded.
