Planning underway for Tullamore St. Patrick's Parade

Planning is well underway for this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade in Tullamore.

The parade is being held on Sunday, March 17 next, beginning at 11.30am with the assembly point for all participants in the Bridge Centre car park.

The route for this year's highly-anticipated event is High St., Bridge St., Colmcille St., over the Kilbeggan Bridge and on to the Arden Road. The parade will finish at the GAA Centre.

"Last year we had a huge turnout of participants and the viewing public as we celebrated our 40th anniversary. We are looking forward to another great parade this year and plans are already well advanced as major bands have already confirmed their attendance" said Parade Secretary and local Independent Cllr, Sean O' Brien.

"The theme for this year is 'Éire, Cultur tri ceol, caint, craic agust síocháin are fud an domhain' which loosely translates to 'Ireland, Culture through music, chat, fun and peace throughout the world.'The committee has asked that all participants do their utmost to reflect this theme in their entries. "As war rages in many countries the parade is an opportunity for people to make a plea for peace" pointed out Cllr O'Brien.

The parade committee meets every Tuesday at 7.30pm in St. Mary's Youth and Community Centre and new volunteers are always welcome.
