Regan takes charge of Birr camogie team

Former Birr and Offaly hurling star Daithí Regan has been appointed as manager of the Birr senior camogie team.

Regan will be joined in the management team by selectors Noel Lyons and Audrey Kennedy, with Steven Mahon fulfilling a strength and conditioning role.

During his own playing career, Regan enjoyed All-Ireland success with both Birr and Offaly. A powerful midfielder, he had many memorable days in the green and red of Birr and in the tricoloured Offaly jersey.

When his playing days ended, Regan worked as a pundit on both Newstalk and TV3 and was a forthright figure when it came to giving his views on hurling matters. He also had a spell as a selector with the Offaly senior hurlers.

Birr retained the Offaly senior camogie title in 2023 when defeating St Cillian's in the final, and they will be aiming to complete a three-in-row later this year. Daithí's daughter Ellen is a talented camogie player and was part of last year's championship winning team.

Towards the end of last month, Birr Camogie Club and Birr GAA held a joint presentation night in the County Arms Hotel during which last year's success was celebrated.

Daithí's son Jack has has represented Ireland in rugby at under-20 level, and has also played for Ulster, Highlanders of New Zealand and Osreys of Wales.
