Council shortlisted for Green Public Sector Organisation of the Year

Minister of State Pippa Hackett, Councillor Mark Hackett and Offaly Green Party LEA representatives Liam Walsh (Tullamore) and Ekatherina Koneva (Birr) have congratulated Offaly County Council on being shortlisted for the Green Public Sector Organisation of the Year 2024. They wish them further success at the awards ceremony tonight (Tuesday.)

The annual Green Awards recognise the extraordinary contribution and commitment both businesses and public sector organisations are making for positive change for a better future.

Offaly Minister Pippa Hackett said: “Our very best wishes to all in Offaly County Council for the Green Awards 2024. All credit to the Chief Executive Anna Marie Delaney and her team for the great work to date in supporting climate action in real and meaningful ways.”

Cllr Mark Hackett added: ”Offaly County Council is the only local authority nominated in its category for an award tonight. It is difficult to make changes across organisations and it requires real teamwork. Offaly County Council is making the changes that we know our businesses and communities need and want.

He continued: ”We can see every day real achievements throughout Offaly in a range of areas such as biodiversity enhancement, sustainable transport initiatives, waste and recycling facilities, cycling infrastructure and environmental programmes. A lot of progress is already well underway in relation to energy efficiency, active travel, resource management, the circular economy, staff development and community outreach.”

All of the Offaly Green Party representatives sent their best wishes to the council for the final this evening. The joint statement said: ”We look forward to working with you to building on the work to date and support it however we can."

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony tonight (Tuesday) in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road in Dublin.
