Offaly get off the mark in style as Egan shines

Offaly claimed their first win in this year's Allianz Football League Division Three campaign in very comprehensive fashion with a 5-15 to 0-10 victory over Wicklow in Tullamore yesterday (Sunday).

Declan Kelly's side plundered five goals at Glenisk O'Connor Park to boost their survival hopes, while Wicklow now look virtual certainties to be relegated back to Division 4.

Cormac Egan, scorer of a stunning solo goal for Offaly, has been rewarded by being named on the GAA.ie Football Team of the Week.

The versatile Tullamore player, who can operate to great effect in defence or attack, was selected at right half-back on the selection, which is drawn from players in all four divisions (see team below).

Offaly's other goals against Wicklow came from Eoin Carroll (Cappincur), Rhode's Anton Sullivan (penalty), Jack Bryant of Shamrocks and Jordan Hayes (Edenderry).

Remarkably, despite having lost four out of their five games thus far, Offaly are in the peculiar position of having a very positive scoring difference of +10.

Next up for Offaly is a clash with Sligo on St Patrick's Day at Markievicz Park, and that will be followed by a home game against Limerick, who are joint bottom of the Division 3 table alongside Wicklow.
