Silver for McGlynn as Harriers claim women's team title

Offaly native Ann-Marie McGlynn claimed silver in the national 10km race in Dunboyne yesterday, while Danielle Donegan led Tullamore Harriers to the team title.

McGlynn (a member of Letterkenny AC) finished strongly to take second place in the women’s race with a time of 33:10.

However, Shona Heaslip of An Ríocht AC claimed the gold medal in a course record time of 32:49. National cross country champion Fiona Everard (Bandon AC) won the bronze medal in 33:22.

Meanwhile, Daneille Donegan signed off her preparations for next weekend's World Cross Country Championships in Serbia by running 34:15 for seventh place. Donegan's performance helped Harriers claim the women's team crown.

Along with Everard, Donegan will compete for Ireland in Belgrade next Saturday, March 30.

Niamh O'Connor (35:30) and Sarah Flanagan (37:19) also scored points in Dunboyne for the Tullamore club, who edged out Dublin City Harriers for the team prize.

Overall, Tullamore Harriers had a large contingent taking part with Paul Mitchell the first home for the club in 32:17.

Meanwhile, Mick Fogarty of Ferbane AC was just a few seconds behind Mitchell in 32:20.

In the men's race, Sean Tobin (Clonmel AC) led them home in 29.17, having held off the challenge of Pierre Murchan (Dublin City Harriers, 29.21) over the final two kilometres.

Emmet Jennings (Dundrum South Dublin) claimed bronze in 29:44, with the first three athletes across the line all breaking the 30-minute mark.

Over 1200 participants completed the Dunboyne 10k, with over 900 taking to championship competition.
