Tullamore GAA recognised for promoting Irish language

Tullamore GAA Club recently won the silver award from the Joe McDonagh Foundation for its work in promoting the use of the Irish language within the GAA. The club was presented with an award at a ceremony in Croke Park last December.

Tullamore GAA under the guidance of cultural officer Niamh Clarke, has done tremendous work over the past few years, organising many activities through Irish.

With the support of Glór na nGael and the National Cultural Officer Jamie O Tuama, the club has inspired and encouraged the growth and use of Irish throughout the club. Coffee mornings, Irish classes, training sessions and Pop-Up Gaeltachts were some of the activities that the club organised.

Cultural Officer Niamh Clarke said it was because of the full support of the executive committee of Tullamore GAA and the members of the club that they were so successful in their endeavours. She also encourages other clubs to use the supports and guidance available from Glór na nGael and the GAA to promote Irish.
