High-visibility patrols planned on Friday for 'Slow Down Day' initiative

The latest 'Slow Down Day' initiative, which is designed to improve safety on our roads, will get underway from 7am this Friday, April 19.

The 24-hour campaign is being carried out by An Garda Síochána in partnership with the Road Safety Authority.

A Garda statement said the campaign was "aimed at promoting safer driving behaviour".

"Our operation in place from 7am (on Friday) morning will centre on high visibility speed enforcement activity across Ireland’s road network," said An Garda Síochána

"We're not out to catch people, we're out each day, including Friday, to improve driving behaviour in an effort to reduce the number of speed-related collisions.

"Please help us to spread the important, life-saving message of slowing down and driving safely."

So far in 2024, more than 60 people have lost their lives on Irish roads.
