Tullamore’s first 24 hour gym granted planning permission

Offaly County County has granted planning permission for the first 24-hour gym in a former shop at Tullamore Retail Park.

The gym will be located in a vacant unit formerly occupied by Carpet Right under a ‘retail warehousing use’ on ‘Enterprise and Employment’ zoned land. The unit has been unoccupied since June 2023.

The council enacted eight conditions when granting permission. The application by Corum Origen is for a 24-hour gym operating seven days a week.

The applicant said there was an “identified demand for a gym at this location and so the proposal is intended to change the permissible use of the unoccupied unit to facilitate this.”Work to the existing facility will involve; the provision of a new mezzanine, internal alterations to the layout to accommodate the proposed change of use, external alterations to the elevations including the provision of a new front door, new signage to the front and all associated development works.

The proposed tenant is Snap Fitness who according to the application have almost 2,500 locations globally and many more in the development stages. Snap Fitness was established in 2003 and is operational or in development in 26 countries.

They specialise in gyms which are open 24/7 and offer monthly contracts, personal training and a variety of equipment.
