Sunshine 350 for Gary Farrell at Mountlucas Parkrun
The sun shone brightly on Saturday when participants at Mountlucas parkrun completed their parkrun, all in good spirits as a result of the good weather.
Gary Farrell, a regular of Griffeen parkrun in Dublin made the journey to Mountlucas with his partner to complete his milestone 350th parkrun there. Gary is a keen athlete and is no stranger to the Midlands having travelled to complete the Bord na Mona Tullamore half marathon several times in recent years. He ran well on the day, despite the heat, and was the third finisher. Gary, who is a member of Lucan Athletics Club, completed his first parkrun in 2014 and has been a regular participant since then. Gary has completed a whopping 350 parkruns to date. While Gary has clocked up the majority of his parkruns at his local parkrun in Griffeen, he is quite the "parkrun tourist" with Mountlucas parkrun being his 40th parkrun event location to participate in.
Most of the parkrun tourism he has completed has been across the length and breadth of Ireland but he has also completed parkruns as far afield as Boston in America. He has also been a volunteer at parkrun events almost 50 times.
Speaking after the Mountlucas parkrun, Gary said: "I love getting out on a Saturday morning after a week's work and getting to see people. It's a great community at parkrun. And I just love running!"
Parkrun is a free weekly timed 5km event for runners and walkers that takes place every Saturday morning at more than 2,000 locations in 23 Countries across the world.
Mountlucas Parkrun is based at Bord na Móna Mountlucas Wind farm outside Daingean.
