Exhibition of art from Tullamore and USA to be officially opened
“Ceangal/Connections”, an art and culture collaboration between four artists in Tullamore and four artists in Chandler, Arizona, is currently open in Tullamore.
The exhibition takes place at Esker Arts Centre, High Street, Tullamore up to August 24.
The official opening takes place today, Friday, July 26 at 7pm. The exhibition will move to the Chandler Museum Gallery in Chandler, Arizona from March 20, 2025 through to August 15. The exhibition comprises of two writers, two photographers, two filmmakers and two visual artists.
Each explores the contrasts and similarities between both Tullamore and Chandler and include landmarks of their areas.
This project is connected to the twinned Chandler Tullamore Sister Cities (CTSC) organisation which is now in its 15th year. CTSC President Ellen Harrington says she is thrilled to celebrate the nonprofit’s anniversary with this project.
“Art and culture are so important to all of us, and to bring these eight artists together is a great way to show both communities about the talent we have,” she says. “To perpetuate the culture of both Chandler and Tullamore is also a high priority for us.” Tullamore Municipal District Councillor and Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council Tony McCormack says the connections made between the two cities are many; “Historical, heritage, educational, economic, art, humanitarian and many other reasons. We decided early on that we wanted to pursue educational, heritage, historical, art and economic,” he explains.
“This new art project, Ceangal is a wonderful collaboration between both sets of artists from Tullamore and Chandler. It has been a fantastic experience, and I look forward to what the future brings!” The Tullamore artists are visual artist Siobhan McCormack, writer Geraldine O’Neill, filmmaker Evin O’Toole and photographer Paul Moore. The Chandler artists are fiber artist Laurie Fagen, writer Lynne Hartke, filmmaker Devon Hancock, and photographer Robert Rice.
