Offaly athletes break world records

Two members of Offaly clubs - Ferbane AC's Denise Egan and Eileen Kenny of Tullamore Harriers AC - have broken Masters 4 x 800m World records.

They both put in stellar performances yesterday evening in Morton Stadium.

Denise was on the O45 team along with Maria Dunne (St Laurence O’Toole AC), Maria McCambridge (Dundrum South Dublin) and Denise Toner (Monaghan AC). They recorded a time of 9:26.49, taking 17 seconds off the previous time.

Eileen was on the O70s 4 x 800m team along with Bridget McCabe (Mullingar Harriers AC), Margaret Glavey (Mayo AC) and Mary Lynch (Raheny Shamrock AC). The ladies broke the old record of 14.45 held by Germany since 2013 by over a minute, recording a time of 13.27.
