Offaly has highest driving test pass rate in Midlands

by Rebekah O'Reilly

New figures have shown that, during the first six months of this year, people taking their driving test in Offaly had a higher pass rate than in any other county in the Midlands.

Between January and June, some 2,888 driving tests were conducted in Offaly, with 54.98% of those yielding a successful outcome for the learner driver.

Offaly's neighbours in Laois had the second highest pass rate, at 50.25%, while elsewhere in the region the driving test pass rates were 46.84% in Westmeath, 46.42% in Roscommon and 41.7% in Longford.

The number of driving tests conducted in Offaly in the first half of this year was the second highest in the Midlands, with only Westmeath conducting more tests over the six months (3,395).

Within Offaly, Birr placed first as the town with the highest pass rate, boasting a 57.43% pass rate out of 1,285 tests taken in the first six months of this year.

Following Birr in second place is the Tullamore driving test centre, which boasted a 52.58% pass rate out of 1,603 driving tests completed.

Another interesting statistic for the county shows that Birr had just 30 no-shows for driving tests in their test centres in the first six months of the year.

This is compared to 65 no shows in the Tullamore driving test centre in the same period.
