Over 120 Offaly children compete in Cumann na mBunscol skills competitions
More than 120 of the best hurlers, camogie players and footballers from the different primary schools in Offaly took part recently in the annual Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Uíbh Fhailí Skills Competition.
These skills competitions which are organised by Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Uíbh Fhailí are used to assess and select children to represent Offaly at the I.N.T.O. Allianz Cumann na mBunscol halftime exhibition games, which will take place during the half time interval at the 2025 All-Ireland Semi Finals and 2025 All Ireland Finals in Croke Park.
In the girls football skills, Emily Kavanagh from St Colman's NS Mucklagh was the winner and she was closely followed by Kate Matthews (Killeigh NS) in second place with Lucy Kavanagh (Scoil Mhuire Rhode), Ciara Moore (Durrow NS) in third and fourth place respectively.
The boys football skills competition was won by Jamie Hoey (Scoil Eoin Phoil, Tullamore) , followed by Adam Kelly (Clonmacnoise NS) in second place with Tommy Fanning (Scoil Bhríde Edenderry) and Seamus Taylor (St Cynoc's NS, Ferbane) in joint third place.
The camogie skills competition was won by Amy Gillespie (Ballinamere NS), with Kirsty Hynes (Coolderry NS) in second place, Amy Delaney (Kinnitty NS) in third place and Aoibheann O'Rourke (Killeigh NS) in fourth place.
In the hurling skills, Oisin Coughlan (Scoil Eoin Rath) emerged victorious, with Kieran Butler (St Rynagh's NS) in second place, followed by Cian McLaughlin (Dromakeenan NS) in third place and Sean Condron (Killeigh NS) in fourth place.
Emily Kavanagh, Kate Matthews, Amy Gillespie, Kirsty Hynes, Oisin Coughlan, Jamie Hoey and Adam Kelly will now go forward to represent Offaly at the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol halftime exhibition games, which will take place during the half time interval at the 2025 All-Ireland Semi Finals and 2025 All Ireland Finals in Croke Park.
Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Uíbh Fhailí extended its thanks to all the players, parents and teachers involved. It added a special word of thanks to Kilcormac GAA club and Clara GAA club for providing their facilities to run the skills competition.
