Offaly Gardaí warn of increased risk of fires due to high temperatures
Gardaí in Laois/Offaly have warned of the risk of fire in the current high tempuratures
With current dry weather conditions and increased temperatures, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has issued a Condition Orange fire risk alert, in effect across many parts of the country, including Offaly.
The Gardaí said: "We echo this urgent warning and remind all landowners, residents, and visitors to our countryside that wildfires can start easily and spread rapidly, endangering lives, property, wildlife, and vital habitats."
What you can do:
Do not light fires in or near forested or grassy areas – this includes deliberate burning of scrub or waste.
Avoid BBQs or outdoor cooking near fields, bogs, or woodland areas.
Report suspicious activity or signs of smoke/fire immediately to emergency services by dial ing 999 or 112.
Farmers and landowners are asked to ensure firebreaks are in place and machinery is serviced and fire-ready.
Walkers and nature-goers should leave no trace and avoid actions that could accidentally spark a blaze.
Gardaí, Fire Services, NPWS staff, and local volunteers are all on alert.
