Tullamore teen claims gold at martial arts World Championship in Poland

Tullamore athlete Kathy Foy has made claimed gold in her division at the prestigious ADCC Amateur World Championship, held in Poland this past weekend.

The 16-year old competed as a blue belt in the Girls 15-17 years +60 kg category, Kathy dominated with composure and technical excellence, cementing her place as one of the most promising young athletes on the international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene.

A student at Killina Presentation Secondary School, Kathy has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since the age of six through Éire Grapple’s “Growing Gorillas” programme.

Over the past decade, she has demonstrated unwavering dedication to the sport, training daily and steadily progressing through the ranks with determination and discipline that set her apart.

Kathy’s commitment extends beyond her own training. She is a regular presence in the gym, where she volunteers her time assisting with classes and supporting club events and competitions.

Her coaches describe her as one of the most hardworking and selfless members of the team, always ready to lend a hand and lead by example.

“Kathy is an inspiration to everyone at the club,” said her coach. What she’s achieved is no accident – it’s the result of years of effort, resilience, and passion for the sport.”

As she returns home from Poland with a world championship title under her belt, Kathy isn’t resting on her laurels. She continues to train with the same hunger and focus, setting her sights on even greater challenges ahead.

The future is bright for this young athlete, and her journey is only just beginning.
