Offaly County Council confirms commitment to energy efficiency targets

The elected members and executive of Offaly County Council have confirmed their commitment to demonstrating leadership in energy efficiency as part of its participation in the National Building Retrofit Pathfinder Programme for Local Authorities 2023-2025.

This commitment by the local authority aligns with national and sectoral targets to increase energy efficiency by 50% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 51% by 2030.

The Pathfinder Programme is 50% funded by the Government Climate Action Fund, administered through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Offaly County Council identified Áras an Chontae and Tullamore Leisure Centre, operated by the Aura Holohan group, as two of its most significant energy users and has selected these buildings for retrofitting initiatives to boost energy efficiencies.

Chief Executive of Offaly County Council, Anna Marie Delaney noted “this significant initiative underscores Offaly County Council's commitment to energy conservation and sustainability” further adding, “the Council looks forward to delivering these projects with partners SEAI and the Aura Holohan group.”

Following an open competitive tender process, IN2 Design Partnership are the Multi-Disciplinary Design Team consultants. SEAI appointed Rogerson Reddan & Associates as project managers for the works. The South East Energy Agency will provide energy efficiency design expertise alongside measuring and verifying the energy savings delivered by the retrofit activities.

Offaly County Council aims to leverage the learnings from this round of Pathfinder projects to implement similar retrofit works in other public buildings, subject to funding availability. This initiative reflects Offaly County Council's dedication to showing leadership and meeting the legally binding 2030 targets.
