Pedestrian in his 50s dies in Offaly road tragedy

A male pedestrian in his 50s died after being struck by a car in Offaly last night (Wednesday).

The tragic collision occurred on the N62, at Killeenboy, Cloghan, shortly after 11pm.

Gardaí and emergency services attended following the collision, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was brought to the Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where a post-mortem examination is to take place in due course. No other injuries were reported.

Gardai said this morning (Thursday) that forensic collision investigators were currently carrying out a technical examination of the scene, and that the road remained closed.

Local diversions are in place and motorists - particularly the drivers of heavy goods vehicles - are being asked to travel via Tullamore.

Gardaí have also issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash cam), and were travelling in the area between 10pm and 11.30pm are being asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
