Local TY students explore future of agriculture
Transition Year students at Tullamore College have recently completed the “Intro to Ag” programme, a dynamic initiative that gave students an insight into Ireland’s agricultural sector and the wide range of career opportunities it offers.
Over the past number of months, students explored key topics in Irish agriculture and engaged in three practical workshops focused on soils, the ruminant digestive system, and health and safety in farming. The programme provided both theoretical and hands-on learning, sparking interest in and awareness of the vital role agriculture plays in Ireland’s economy and environment.
The programme culminated in the “Intro to Ag” finals, held in May at the Regional Skills Centre in Tullamore. Congratulations to students Abel, Muireann, and Clíona who reached the final, and especially to Muireann and Clíona, who were awarded runners-up for their project titled “Future Education and Training Opportunities in Agriculture.”
Tullamore College thanked Agri Aware and the Laois and Offaly ETB for running this excellent programme and supporting students in their exploration of agricultural education and careers. It also thanked teacher Ms Burke for facilitating the Intro to Ag programme.
