Charitable creativity of LOETB Birr students raises funds for Make A Wish

The charitable endeavours of LOETB Birr students was rewarded when Irish music artist and Dublin South FM radio presenter Marian Shanley visited the school to present 'Outstanding Contribution and Creative Excellent & Positive Social Impact' certificates to mark a creative initiative which gained national attention.

The Music Industry and Event Management students in LOETB Birr raised over €2,350 from the 'Dance with Me Tonight Concert' in Birr Theatre and Arts Centre and the release of the single of same name which scored the highest new entry in the Top 20 home-grown charts for Make a Wish Ireland.

Marian, the host of the Power of Dreams, is also an artist (see marsshanley.com) who advocates wellness through the arts, and is known for spotlighting positive stories and emerging talent on her show, so she really understands the journey of a creative from the inside out was moved by the creativity, drive, and compassion shown by the students.

During her visit, she met with the students, teachers, management and supporters behind the initiative, and praised the group for using their passion for music to make a real difference.“This is what the power of dreams looks like in action. These students didn’t just chase a goal—they used their talents to lift others and contribute to a cause that changes lives. It’s inspiring, and it deserves to be celebrated and acknowledged with this award," Marian said.

"It was a brilliant demonstration of the students channelling their passion and applying the skills they’ve gained here, resulting in a powerful blend of teamwork, creativity, I am delighted that Marian has chosen to acknowledge their success with this prestigious award," Enda Kennedy, the Centre Manager, added.

"In an era where the music industry has been become so competitive and hard to generate funds, the students used the knowledge acquired from the course and applied their skills to make the project a commercial success which has benefited themselves in terms of experience and professional profile as demonstrated by gaining this prestigious award," John McFadden, Music Industry and Event Management teacher, said.

On the day, Marian announced to the students that they would be welcome to host a takeover on her show 'The Power of Dreams' which as seen with the smiles on their faces in the photograph was met with excitement and enthusiasm. This takeover will see the students work with media professionals to program, curate and run a two hour radio show on Dublin South FM later this year.
