Thunderstorm warning issued for Offaly overnight and into tomorrow

Thunderstorms are set to sweep across the country overnight and well into tomorrow (Thursday), according to Met Éireann.

Yellow-level thunderstorm warnings have today been issued for most of the country, with a fourteen-hour warning set to come into effect for all of Leinster, including Offaly.

The weather warning commences at midnight and will remain in place until 2pm on Thursday.

While meteorologists regard the forecasting of thunderstorms as difficult, Met Éireann said the areas under weather warnings were expected to see heavy showers and localised thunderstorms.

It said the possible impacts of the storms included spot flooding and lightning damage.
