Tullamore school's anthem is officially launched

The pupils and staff of one of the oldest primary schools in Tullamore marked a real milestone moment with the official launch of the first official anthem in their 93-year history at a special Cruinniú na nÓg event in Tullamore Library on Saturday evening last.

'St Philomena's: We Are One' is the result of an unique collaboration between the pupils and teachers of St Philomena's all girls primary school and Music Generation. Working alongside Emma Goulding from Music Generation, and using the school motto of 'Every Child Deserves a Chance', the pupils from 3rd and 4th class brainstormed words that came to mind to describe their experience of going to school in St Philomena's.

The resulting efforts were then brought to the 5th and 6th class pupils, who wrote the lyrics under the watchful eye of their class teachers, and Emma Goulding from Music Generation then worked with both sets of pupils to come up with a catchy melody.

The school was invited to launch their anthem, and an accompanying video, at last weekend's Cruinniú na nÓg event in Tullamore Library where pupils, Aoife, Isobel, Ciara, Jane and Jennifer donned their St Philomena's uniforms and gave a very impressive presentation on the background to the composition of the school's inaugural anthem, before treating the audience to a beautiful rendition of the song.

St Philomena's School paid a warm tribute to the pupils, teachers and parents who attended last Saturday evening's official anthem launch and said they are “so proud of each and every girl” in their school for being part of such an innovative and exciting project for the school, They also paid tribute to Music Generation and, in particular to Emma Goulding, who guided the pupils and teachers through the entire process of writing their own school anthem.

Music Generation Offaly also extended “huge congratulations” to all the pupils frrom St Philomena's NS on the launch of their anthem and video as part of the Cruinniú na nÓg Night Time Economy event.

"St Philomena’s: We Are One” is supported by Offaly Libraries and Creative Ireland.
