Stolen car seized after being stopped at Birr checkpoint

Three people are due in court in Tullamore next month after Gardai in Birr intercepted a stolen vehicle at a checkpoint.

Gardai said the incident occurred around 2am on Saturday, at a rural checkpoint on Military Road, Crinkle.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals following a brief foot pursuit.

The vehicle, previously reported stolen during a burglary in Thurles, Co. Tipperary earlier this week, was seized on-site. Gardaí also noted an attempt to alter the vehicle’s registration plate using black tape—a tactic designed to evade detection.

In a statement, Gardai said: "Thanks to the swift response and vigilance of local members, the three individuals were arrested and have since been charged with the unauthorised taking of a mechanically propelled vehicle. They are due to appear before Tullamore District Court on July 9th."
