Film shot in Banagher to premiere at Galway Film Fleadh

A film that was shot in Banagher last November on a budget of €12,000 will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh on Friday, July 11 next.

The short film 'For The Cure' was written and directed by Conor McCormick and produced by Lorcan O’Hanlon, with funding provided by FilmOffaly’s annual Short Film Award through the Offaly Arts Office. The screening at the Fleadh will be the film’s first showing in front of a general audience.

The film features actors Darragh Shannon and Aisling O'Sullivan as well as local extras, and the unnerving tale centres on a young man who appears to have lost the power of speech. Traumatised and upset, it’s clear a cure must be found- no matter how unorthodox.

"For The Cure' is a mysterious and compelling exploration on the power of grief. The inventive use of traditional film stock and close attention to sound design make for a memorable viewing experience. We are excited to finally see this on the big screen and wish Conor and Lorcan every success with their film.” said FilmOffaly’s Darren Lee.

This is McCormick and O’Hanlon’s second film working together. Their last project, Bunker Baby was shot in Meath and premiered at last year’s Fleadh before featuring at the Dublin International Film Festival.

Galway Film Fleadh is an international film festival that has taken place every July since 1989. It’s an important platform for Irish filmmakers to be able to share their work on the world stage and offers a range of industry-led events to support organisations working in the Irish film industry. This year’s festival runs in various venues across the city from July 8 to 13 next.

The premiere of 'For The Cure' will take place at the Town Hall Theatre at 9.30am on Friday July 11, and the short film will be screened across a wide selection of Irish film festivals in the coming year.
