Naomh Mhuire AC Daingean submit plans for new running track
Naomh Mhuire Athletics Club (AC) in Daingean is aiming to better running facilities for existing members with a planning application for the construction of a running track on lands at Gorteenkeel, Geashill, submitted to Offaly County Council this week.
The planning application also includes the proposed development of car parking facilities, vehicular entrance from a public road, associated lighting, a temporary storage cabin and all associated works.
Naomh Mhuire AC committee member Pauline Colgan is hoping to see the proposed development come to fruition, a decision on the planning application to be made on August 17.
"We currently hold weekly training sessions in Daingean GAA so the proposed development of a tartan running track, should it be approved, will be a boost for the club," Pauline said.
Naomh Mhuire has over 100 members and such a development would allow membership to further increase.
"The club is in existence for 15 years and membership continues to rise. We are primarily a senior club but the proposed development would potentially allow us to attract juvenile members to the club," Pauline added.
The club has received a Sports Partnership grant towards the proposed development and should the planning application be approved, there are plans for a number of fundraising initiatives to assist with the realisation of the project.
