Shane Lowry paid a visit to an eye-catching mural of himself in Portrush as the countdown continues to the return of The Open at Royal Portrush in mid-July.

The mural, which was unveiled in the seaside Antrim town last year, shows the Clara man hoisting the Claret Jug after his Open victory in 2019. It was created by Peaball, a Derry-based art collective.

In recent days, Lowry shared a photo of himself posing happily in front of the large-scale public artwork celebrating his first win at one of golf's four majors.

On social media, the 38-year-old wrote: "Little trip to Portrush to check it out before The Open. Course is looking great and everything ready for a big week."

The Open Championship takes place from Thursday, July 17, to Sunday, July 20.
