Successful launch of 'That Beats Banagher' book
The authors of a new book on the history of the phrase 'That Beats Banagher' have thanked the hundreds of people who attended its launch in Banagher College / Coláiste Na Sionna on Friday evening last.
The book, entitled That Beats Banagher!: A Humorous Expression of Amazement was written by local historians Kieran Keenaghan and James Scully.
It was launched by Offaly sports historian, commentator and academic, Paul Rouse, who delivered a superb speech on the importance of history in calling out corruption in the past.
Paul's speech was followed by remarks from Diarmuid Guinan of Brosna Press, Ferbane, which designed and printed the book.
The evening concluded with words of thanks from Kieran Keenaghan and James Scully for their families and all who helped bring the work to fruition. High-quality Irish music was provided by Sheila Keenaghan's family and friends.
The book is now available Paul Flynn's Newsagency and Flynn's Public House in Banagher, Supervalu in Banagher and Birr, Salmon's News Agencies in Portumna and Ballinasloe, Fergal Moran's in Shannonbridge, Midland Books, High Street and Offaly History, Bury Quay, both in Tullamore.
