Offaly artists invited to create 'mini museum' for display in Birr

Artists from or with links to Offaly are being invited to apply for an interesting commission involving the creation of "a unique mini-museum" that will go on display in Birr.

The initiative is being funded by Creative Ireland and Offaly County Council, and is an artist-led project in collaboration with the Birr & Midlands Chapter of The Irish Georgian Society.

Artists are being invited to research and create an imaginative view with made, curated or found objects and text (story/captioning) with a historical/heritage-guided theme and artistic interpretation.

The mini-museum "can include poetry, humour, moving parts and lighting," and is to be contained in "a prototype box made by a local carpenter... Dimensions: 40cm high x 60cm wide x 30cm deep".

Guideline topics issued for the mini museum include: place (a townland or street), a house/home, and a family or individual of interest.

The fee for the selected artist is €500, and it's hoped the mini museum can be displayed either as an in-progress or completed work during Heritage Week, from August 16-24.

The contact details for mailing of a proposal, CV or images of work are to: Rosalind, Tin Jug Studio, Saint Brendan Street, Birr, Offaly. info@tinjugstudio.com , 087 6681783.

It's hoped that the selected artist will be confirmed by Wednesday, July 16.
