Brew & Banter for men comes to Edenderry in August
A community initiative designed to combat loneliness and social isolation in men is coming to Edenderry next month.
Brew & Banter will provide an informal space for men to meet up for good chats, some laughs and a bit of fun in the Fairgreen Centre, Edenderry, every Tuesday from August 12 to September 2.
The sessions will get underway at 11am each Tuesday morning, and end at 12.30pm. The first meet up will consist of a breakfast morning, while subsequent sessions will consist of Walk & Talk; basic self defence and trying out games like Boccia and Scooch.
All sessions will be delivered by Offaly Local Development Company, with co-funding being provided by the government and the EU.
Men of all ages in the Edenderry area are invited to drop into any, or all, of the sessions, and more information on this new initiative is available by phoning Derek on 087 7421524, or Aoife on 087 7385989.
Separately, Offaly Local Development Company will host a 12-week MenPower Programme in the Fairgreen Community Centre in Edenderry, which gets underway on Wednesday, September 24. The course will take place every Wednesday from 10am to 1pm and on Thursdays from 10am to 2pm.
The programme is open to all men over the age of 18 (there is no upper age limit) who have experienced issues like loss, confusion, lack of focus or employment-related challenges. As well as conducting one-to-one sessions with participants, the course also combines mental health support, adult guidance, physical activity and social interaction.
Men can refer themselves or be referred by their GP or a support worker, but they must be willing to commit to the group two mornings a week.
The course will be delivered face to face in small groups. Two one to one sessions will also be assigned to each participant.
OLDC has stressed that places are limited on the Edenderry Menpower Programme, and all those wishing to enrol in the September course are advised to contact Aoife as soon as possible for more information and to secure their place.
